Overview
The MigrationWare Mantis conversion solution
enables the automated conversion of Mantis applications into applications
written in equivalent COBOL code with an exceptionally high degree of accuracy.
One of the key features of the solution is its ability to deal with many of the
Mantis nuances that ordinarily find no direct equivalence outside of the Mantis
framework. The revised applications in the COBOL environment not only provide
the same functionality as the previous Mantis environment, but generally perform
more efficiently, at a lower cost, with a higher degree of accuracy.
MigrationWare’s Mantis conversion technology has been deployed on several large
scale projects around the world that have resulted in the conversion to COBOL of
many thousands of Mantis programs. Practically how it works: The code is
converted to Pseudo-conversational COBOL/CICS code designed to execute in any
COBOL supported environment including the mainframe, Windows, UNIX and Linux.
The code executes without any runtime dependencies and as a result there are no
additional license costs attached to the code maintenance once it’s converted.
Where Supra is being used in conjunction with Mantis, it can optionally be
converted to any of the main stream relational databases (RDBMS) which include
DB2, Oracle and SQL Server.
The MigrationWare approach to the conversion of
Supra would be undertaken against the converted COBOL code and would deal with
the conversion of data structures to RDBMS format as well as all references to
Supra embedded within the COBOL code.
All converted code is delivered in COBOL
source code format which is designed to support all Mantis features by means of
standard COBOL syntax including complex features such as automatic mapping; dynamic run-time
execution and dynamic field attribute allocation amongst others.
Benefits
There
are significant benefits to be derived from a migration to technically strategic
environment that serve to protect the business from the rapidly changing world
of information technology.
The move to COBOL is beneficial because of COBOL’s
continued dominance of large scale application systems development globally and
the continued availability of skilled resources as well and support within
leading edge technical innovations and developments.
COBOL is without parallel
in terms of its interoperability, portability and scalability, as well as in the
availability of third party tools to enhance application understanding and
productivity. As a “burning platform” Mantis users are exposed to rapidly
increasing ownership costs at the same time as they are exposed to a rapidly
shrinking resource pool.
This combination of factors, poses a very real and
substantial risk to existing Mantis users and businesses that depend on this
technology.
This risk can be decisively dealt with by speedily and cost
effectively migrating the Mantis applications to a COBOL/CICS environment.

Key
features
• Close to 100 percent automatic translation.
• Conversion of
conversational Mantis to Pseudo Conversational COBOL/CICS.
• Automatically
reproduces Mantis like behaviour ensuring seamless integration with other
systems.
• Conversion of Supra to DB2, Oracle or SQL Server.
• Automatically
handles – Multi map screens. – Automatic mapping.
– Prompt screens. – Printer maps.
• Supports deployment of converted code to
both EBCDIC and ASCII environments.
• No black boxes or run-time dependencies.
•
No license or maintenance fees
Conversion execution MigrationWare can either
perform the conversion on behalf of the organisation or provide the solution to
the client or a partner to convert the code.
When MigrationWare performs the
conversion, the Mantis and Supra code is delivered to MigrationWare. The Mantis
programs are automatically converted into clean compiling COBOL programs that
are then returned to the customer for subsequent testing and implementation.
Should any issues surface, which require MigrationWare’s involvement,
MigrationWare will remain active in a support role throughout the testing phase.
Pricing
Each project is unique with differing requirements volumes, schedules
and deadlines. It is therefore usually impossible to supply a fixed pricing
structure.
A final quote is only provided after initial interaction with the
client and when MigrationWare has fully understood the scope of the project and
the client’s required involvement from MigrationWare. |
